“Belonging to a Community while Growing up”
The Spanish for Bilinguals course involves sustainability-related content seeking to analyze the impact of communities on the students’ dual upbringing. The assignment framework for the sustainability discussion integrates the United Nations Sustainable Developing Goals (SDGs). Students develop part of their autobiographies, positioning themselves on the broader society and the need for equitable human survival on the planet.
Students read one story from a collection of works found in “All We Can Save,” edited work by Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Dr. Katharine Wilkinson and published by One World, “Community is our best chance” by Christine E. Nieves Rodriguez, and then discuss to elaborate a sustainable midterm reflection in a creative project of their preference: essays, poems, podcast and/or posters, as it is presented below.
