At SUNY Oneonta, Latinx students have been celebrating the day of the dead every Nov 1st through the 4th at the International Lounge in Hunt Union. The student population from Mexico and Guatemala show others how to build the Altar “la ofrenda a los muertos” every year. All students build it together and bring “ofrendas” to their loved ones. Students in Spanish classes write short compositions about their dead loved ones, and contribute, creating a collection of memoirs that adds to the walls of the Altar; these compositions are kept making the remembrance larger with each celebration.
